The most persistent motif in the art of Egon Schiele is the human figure. Internalization was a key subject matter for the German and Austrian Expressionists.
It stems from a general desire to probe, identify and express inner essences.
All of Schiele’s portraits are mirror images: he always drew from nature, and when making his own portraits, he relied on the reflection of his image.
This project will explore the different ways through which we chose to portray ourselves.
