Through Work in Ruins, I deconstruct and repurpose traditional garment-making techniques, exposing raw construction elements to reflect themes of instability and reconstruction. Drawing from my background in construction and influenced by social, political, and environmental shifts, my work bridges personal experiences with broader global issues. family, friends and society. It explores the feelings movement within that spectrum, how much we allow ourselves to have room for our identity and how that fluctuates in different interactions. The most persistent motif in the art of Egon Schiele is the human figure. Internalization was a key subject matter for the German and Austrian Expressionists. It stems from a general desire to probe, identify and express inner essences.All of Schiele’s portraits are mirror images: he always drew from nature, and when making his own portraits, he relied on the reflection of his image. society. It explores the feelings movement within that spectrum, how much we allow ourselves to have room for our identity and how that fluctuates in different interactions. Drawn from personal experience of navigating the world abroad, I choose to center my research around feelings of restriction, fear and great within my journey of navigating more space for my identity. Through my work I aim to inspire action towards fostering a more inclusive and empathetic global community, where diversity is celebrated and embraced. <img 2026 01:01:48 +0000 Yuval Nehama Sorotzkin https://yuvalsorotzkin.com/The-16th-sheep ᝰTHE 16TH SHEEP For the theme of the exhibit “A Work of Art”, I picked the artist Menashe Kadishman. Kadishman was a painter and sculptor and in his youth he was a shepherd in the north of Israel. The time he spent as a shepherd really influenced his artistic career, he believed that these timid sheep were worthy of a magnified portrait and the sheep heads became his trademark. Counting sheep at night was an immediate association for me with his work and I choose to relate it to the Israeli poem “the sixteenth sheep”.When reflecting on his obsession with painting and sculpting sheep heads over and over again, I decided to take a button up shirt and manipulate it in different ways. The fabrics and colors were inspired by his work and the different textures he used in his portraits. The silhouette was inspired by sheep themselves who embody a very covered feeling with the thick hair they have covering their whole body.Lastly, this project is dedicated to my childhood in Israel. The collection exposes corsetry, fragmented pattern pieces, and visible construction, treating each look as an evolving form rather than a finished object. Mens suiting fabrics are juxtaposed with delicate materials such as satin and tulle, creating a tension between control and fluidity without assigning hierarchy to either.Presented during New York Fashion Week, the runway show emphasized proximity and clarity, allowing the technical and material complexity of the work to be experienced directly. Set within an industrial space, the presentation brought together a focused audience of designers, stylists, and industry professionals, reinforcing the dialogue between garment, environment, and viewer. The result was a presentation centered on process, precision, and the ongoing transformation of form.
